Translation as Transhumance. 2023

With an extraordinary sensitivity for language, translation, and poetry, Mireille Gansel has built bridges between cultures, spaces, and times throughout her extensive career. From beginnings that escaped the barbarism and destruction of Nazi mid-20th century to the recovery of cultural heritage of a New Zealand tribe impoverished by pollution and the destruction of natural resources in the 21st century, Gansel starts from listening, perception, and respect towards otherness to construct a humble, generous, and rich discourse. As she says, poetry cannot be subjected to power or lies. And neither can translation.
